Chicken farmer Terry Millard vigorously denied mistreating his birds last night as the RSPCA suspended his Somerset farm from its Freedom Food scheme.
The animal welfare charity said it had taken the action following an undercover investigation by animal rights activists.
It said Double Gate Farm would be suspended from the scheme - a labelling system dedicated to improving farm animal welfare - until the RSPCA had completed its own investigation.
