China Has 5.9M Ha Of Wheat Affected By Drought
The Chinese Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said that, as of Sunday, 6.9 million hectares of agricultural land is under stress from the drought gripping the country.
Of this acreage, 5.9m ha is planted with wheat, they said. At its peak earlier in the month around 10m ha of wheat was said to be threatened by drought.
Even so, 5.9m ha sounds like a lot of wheat to me. Almost 22,780 square miles of it to be precise. Or an area equivalent to almost half of England.
