Russia Exported Over 1MMT Wheat 1-24 Dec
During the period December, 1-24, 2008, grain exports from Russia totaled 1.36 mln tonnes, including 1.05 mln tonnes of wheat, 308,000 tonnes of barley and 2,000 tonnes of rye, according to the Russian Ministry of Agriculture.
Russian Grain Export Pace
During the November 1-25 period Russia exported 1.32 mln tonnes of grains, including 1.19 mln tonnes of wheat, 129,000 tonnes of barley, 2,000 tonnes of rye, declared the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia.
From the beginning of 2008/09 Marketing Year, Russia has exported 9.99 mln tonnes of grains, including 8.92 mln tones of wheat, 1.06 mln tonnes of barley, and 9,000 tonnes of rye. In October, grain export volumes totaled 2.44 mln tonnes (2.19 mln tonnes of wheat, 2,000 tonnes of rye, and 249,000 tonnes of barley).
Russian Ports Clogged With Undischarged Rail Cars
Over 35,000 undischarged cars including some loaded with grain and metal for export have become grid-locked in Russian ports, according to reports.
Vadim Morozov, RZD First Vice President, says the situation is the toughest in Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port (NCSP) and Vostochny Port where 17,500 and 26,500 cars have clogged the railways.
In November 2008 car unloading reduced 23% against the norms due to severe weather conditions.
RZD said it would usually halt cargo transportation to ports in these condition, but in the current crisis situation RZD needs the revenure.
Russia Has Exported Almost 10MMT Grain So Far This Season
During November 1-18 period, 2008, Russia exported 845,000 tonnes of grains, including 752,000 tonnes of wheat, 91,000 tonnes of barley, 2,000 tonnes of rye, declared the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia.
From the beginning of 2008/09 marketing year, Russia has exported 9.52 mln tonnes of grains, including 8.48 mln tones of wheat, 1.03 mln tonnes of barley, 9,000 tonnes of rye.
In October, grains export volumes totaled 2.44 mln tonnes (2.19 mln tonnes of wheat, 2,000 tonnes of rye, 249,000 tonnes of barley).
Russia Eyes Brazil As New Grain Buyer
Russia could export about 2 million tonnes of grain to Brazil and it is ready to increase imports of Brazilian soybeans to 1 million tonnes.
These plans were unveiled by Russian Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev during talks with Brazilian Agriculture Minister Reinhold Stephanes in Sao Paulo, Brazil, according to the Russian Agriculture Ministry's press release.
"We have discussed a plan to export Russian grain to Brazil and to increase the import of Brazilian soybeans to 1 million tonnes," Gordeyev was quoted as saying.
Noting that Brazil traditionally imports grain from Argentina, he said that Russia was prepared to export around 2 million tonnes of grain to that country.
Brazil also wants to buy mineral fertilizers directly from Russia.
Russian Grain Exports Buoyant
During the first four months of a new agricultural year (July-October), Russia exported nearly 10 mln tonnes of grain as opposed to 13 mln tonnes of all previous agricultural year.
Comparing the first three quarters of 2008 with a year ago however, things look quite different. Russia actually shipped 20% less wheat in the period January-September 2008 compared to the same period of 2007, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) said in a statement.
Russia exported 6.6 million tonnes of wheat for a total of $1.782 billion in January-September 2008 compared to 8.02 million tonnes for $1.8 billion in the first nine months of 2007. The reduction was the result of an export duty on wheat that remained in effect until June 30, the agency said.
Grain Exports Pour Out Of Russia, Eyes East
During October 1-21, 2008, Russia exported nearly 1.67 mln tonnes of grain, including 1.52 mln tonnes of wheat, declared the Ministry of Agriculture on October 27.
During the whole 2008/09 marketing year so far (July-June), Russia has exported 7.9 mln tonnes of grain, including 7.05 mln tonnes of wheat, 839,000 tonnes of barley and7,000 tonnes of rye. In September, grain exports from Russia totaled 2.96 mln tonnes (2.63 mln tonnes of wheat, 4,000 tonnes of rye and 332,000 tonnes of barley).
The country's agriculture minister, Alexei Gordeyev, said on Monday that this year was witnessing the largest grain harvest since 1992, with the 2008 crop expected to exceed 100 million metric tons in net weight.
"Domestic demand for food grain and animal feed will be completely met as a result, and possible exports are estimated at 20 million tons," the minister said.
He said there were good prospects for exporting grain to China, although he noted that Russia was not yet on China's imports list, traditionally dominated by the United States, Canada and Australia.
The minister said China imports around 6 million tons of grain annually.
"We are planning to develop the eastern direction in grain exports," Gordeyev said, adding that this could lead to Siberia using fallow lands to increase its output.
Russia Exports Almost 1MMT Wheat In First Fortnight October
Russian grain exports continue at breakneck speed. During the October 1-14 period Russia exported nearly 1.09 mln tonnes of grain, including 989,000 tonnes of wheat, say the Ministry of Agriculture.
Since the beginning of the 2008 marketing year (July-June) Russia has exported 7.32 mln tonnes of grain, including 6.52 mln tonnes of wheat and 789,000 tonnes of barley the Ministry added.
Russia To Build New Black Sea Grain Terminal
With a grain harvest in excess of 100 million tonnes under its belt, and the capacity to further increase that substantially in the coming years, the main problem Russia has got is the logistics of getting it's grain to market. So, perhaps in the light of its recent spat with Ukraine, they've decided to build a new export facility on the Black Sea.
Russian companies Efko and Solnechnye Produkty plan to build a deepwater grain terminal on the Black Sea at a cost of $220 million, Moscow-based newspaper Vedomosti reported Oct. 15. The new port in Taman is expected to handle five million tonnes of grain a year, the report says.
The companies will jointly own the grain terminal, and are currently meeting with banks on financing, Vedomosti reported.
Maybe they're going to borrow some of their own money back from Iceland at preferential rates?
Russian Grain Exports Running At Double Last Season
Russian grain exports are running at around twice last season's pace, according to Aleksey Gordeyev, the Minister of Agriculture of Russia.
Russia exported 6.815 million metric tonnes of grain, almost all of it (6.041 million tonnes) wheat between the beginning of the current marketing year July 1 and Oct. 7, the Minister announced Tuesday.
The Ministry said it now expects this year's grain harvest total 105 million tonnes in clean weight, which would be about 23 million tonnes more than in 2007.
Syria Buys First Russian Wheat For Many Years
According to Syria news com, the Director General of the Syrian General Establishment for Cereal Processing and Trade, Mr. Suleiman Al-Nasir, said that a first shipment of the imported Russian wheat is expected to arrive into Syria shortly. Mr. Al-Nasir added that the first shipment of 32,000 tons of Russian wheat, out of 120,000 tons, was part of a deal concluded in August, and was the first such shipment for many years.
Grain Pouring Out Of Russia
During the 2008/09 marketing year, Russia has exported 5.2 mln tonnes of grain, including 4.65 mln tonnes of wheat, 549,000 tonnes of barley and 2,700 tonnes of rye, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
During September 1-23 period alone, Russia exported 1.95 mln tonnes of grain, including 1.75 mln tonnes of wheat, 195,000 tonnes of barley and 2,700 tonnes of rye.
Russia Exports Grain At Record Pace
RUSSIAN grain exports have reached 3.4m tonnes since the start of the new crop year in July, a record volume for the first two months of a season.
Russian wheat exports rose to 2.2m tonnes in August from 720,00 tonnes in July. Major purchasers in August were Egypt and Turkey, while Iran joined the group of leading buyers for the first time.
Russia started wheat exports to Kenya, Jordan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Morocco, Uganda, Malawi and Bangladesh.
Azerbaijan remained a major buyer of the country's grain due to the absence of Kazakh supplies.
Exports to Georgia, which in 2007-2008 was a big Russian wheat buyer, included several thousand tanks and armed personnel, but alas no wheat.
Private estimates peg Russian grain output much bigger than official estimates
The coy old Ruskies are at it again. Not content with snatching foreign privinces evidence is emerging that their 2008 grain crop is going to be much bigger than the official estimate of 85MMT.
According to Nicholas Demianov, the head of marketing department of International Grain Company, the company recently renewed it's forecasts for the grain crop in Russia and increased it to 98 mln tonnes. Add to that nearly 9.3 mln tonnes of wheat, barley and oats that remained from last year crop and we have alarge exportable surplus on out hands here.
Grains export will total 17.5-18 mln tonnes of wheat and 2.5-3 mln tonnes of barley according to Demianov. The wheat export figure is substantially higher than the official estimate of 14-15 mln tonnes. In the 2007 marketing year Russia exported 12.75 mln tonnes of grain.
Russia abolishes grain export duty
The Russian Ag Ministry have today confirmed that Russia will no longer charge wheat and barley export duty as of July 1.
The government imposed export duty on wheat and barley Nov. 12, 2007, in order to prevent prices rising on the domestic market due to a poor harvest.
The wheat export duty was originally 10% but was raised to 40% in January; the barley export duty of 30% was imposed in November 2007 and didn't change.
That's a well-timed kick in the cream crackers for European exporters just before the harvest starts.
