USDA Weekly Export Sales

22/12/11 -- The USDA's weekly export sales came in better than expected for corn and beans and in line with trade estimates for wheat.

Corn sales were 715,000 MT for 2011/12 plus a further 238,000 MT for delivery in 2012/13 compared to the expected 450-650,000 MT. There was one sale to China in amongst the 2011/12 volume. In addition weekly shipments of 1,300,800 MT were a marketing-year high.

Soybean sales were 653,400 MT for 2011/12 and 75,000 MT for 2012/13 against the anticipated 400-600,000 MT. Exports of 934,200 MT were primarily to China (599,400 MT).

Wheat sales of 362,300 MT were in line with the expected 300-450,000 MT. Shipments were only 399,900 MT - down 26 percent from the previous week. Exports need to be 427,400 MT/week to reach the USDA's 2011/12 export target of 24.5 MMT.

22/09/11 -- The USDA weekly export sales report saw net sales of 679,500 MT of wheat for the 2011/12 marketing year, better than the 400-550 thousand MT expected.

Corn sales came in at 598,100 MT versus expectations of 550-800 thousand MT, with soybeans at 404,400 MT compared to forecasts of 350-550 TMT. For corn 122,800 MT was switched from unknown destinations to China.

08/07/11 -- The USDA's weekly export sales report for the period June 24-30:

Corn sales were large as expected at 621,800 MT old crop and 868,800 MT new crop for a combined total of almost 1.5 MMT versus expectations of 700 TMT to 1.3 MMT. Unknown destinations took the largest volume of both old crop (250,600 MT) and new crop (783,000 MT).

Wheat sales came in at 424,200 MT, on the low end of expectations for 450-650 TMT. China popped up as surprise buyer on one 55,000 MT cargo.

Soybean sales were 305,700 MT old crop and 129,000 MT new crop towards the low end of combined expectations of 400-700 TMT.

USDA Export Sales

16/06/11 -- The USDA's weekly export sales report pegs wheat sales at 455,500 MT (including 57,800 MT for Egypt) at the low end of pre-report expectations of 400-800 TMT.

Corn sales came in at 794,700 MT, again a bit flat compared to expectations of 700,000 to 1,200,000 MT considering that we already knew about the recent sale of 548,600 MT of new crop to Mexico.

Soybean sales were 185,400 MT, slack but in line with trade ideas of just 100-200 TMT.

USDA Export Sales

03/06/11 -- The USDA's weekly export sales for the week ended May 26th are out this afternoon. They reported combined wheat sales of 308,800 MT, in line with expectations for sales of 200-500,000 MT. Corn sales were a combined 700,900 MT against trade ideas of 500TMT - 1 MMT. Soybean sales were a bit disappointing at 155,500 MT, very much towards the low end of expectations of 150-350 TMT.

05/05/11 -- The USDA have today reported the following weekly export sales for the week ended Apr 28th 2011:

Wheat sales of 273,900 MT old crop and 275,700 MT new crop gave us a combined total of 549,600 MT - in line with trade expectations for sales of 300-600,000 MT. That's where to good news ends. Corn sales of 284,200 MT were below trade expectations of 350-650,000 MT and soybean sales were a disaster at just 21,000 MT, even though trade hopes weren't that high at 100-300,000 MT.

Soybean exports of just 200,200 MT were down 26 percent from the previous week and 58 percent from the prior 4-week average, the USDA said.

I guess we don't have to look too far past soybeans for this afternoon's whipping boy then?

USDA Weekly Export Sales/Shipments

28/04/11 -- The USDA have today reported the following weekly export sales for the week ended Apr 21st 2011:

Wheat sales of 265,000 MT for the 2010/11 marketing year and 153,200 MT for delivery in 2011/2012 gives us combined sales of 418,200 MT against trade expectations of 350-550,000 MT.

Corn sales of 349,000 MT of old crop and just 94,700 MT of new crop make a combined 443,700 MT, well below expectations for sales of 800,000 MT - 1 MMT.

Soybean sales of 143,500 MT of old crop and 55,700 MT made combined sales of 199,200 MT versus trade ideas of 350-550,000 MT.

Corn and wheat shipments were decent at 907,800 MT and 826,200 MT, but soybean shipments lagged at 270,300 MT.

21/04/11 -- The USDA have today reported the following weekly export sales for the week ended Apr 14th 2011:

Corn sales of 613,400 MT old crop and 243,900 MT were in line with expectations for total sales of 800,000 MT to 1.1 MMT. Just for the record, there was no sign of China. Shipments were strong at 935,300 MT.

Wheat sales were below trade estimates of 400 to 800 thousand MT at 134,800 MT old crop and 168,400 MT of new crop. Shipments were strong at 862,000 MT.

Soybean export sales were well above trade estimates of 200 to 400 thousand MT at 349,000 MT old crop and 206,300 MT new crop. China took 176,500 MT of the old crop and 165,000 MT of the new crop. There were no US bean cancellations by China. Shipments slacked off a little at 443,000 MT.

14/04/11 -- The USDA have reported the following weekly export sales for the week ended Apr 7th 2011:

Corn sales of 848,000 MT old crop and 253,500 MT of new crop were robust again making a combined 1.1 MMT against expectations of 550-950 TMT. There were no sales to China although the new crop sales went to "unknown".

Wheat sales were 443,600 MT old crop and 102,000 MT new crop for a combined total of 545,500 MT, in line with expectations for sales of 300-750 TMT.

Soybean sales were disappointing at 130,200 MT against hopes for sales of 200-400 TMT. China did take some, although there were also cancellations to "unknown" largely offsetting these.

31/03/11 -- USDA weekly export sales were robust as expected for corn following last week's sales to unknown of 1.25 MMT of old crop and 0.25 MMT of new crop. In the end old crop sales were 1,914,900 MT - a marketing-year high - with unknown accounting for 1,219,900 MT of that. Unknown was also the largest new crop buyer. There was no confirmation of business to China.

Soybean sales were disappointing at 144,800 MT old crop and 113,000 MT new crop. Wheat sales were a little below expectations at a combined 409,500 MT.

USDA Export Sales - China Buys Wheat Not Corn

24/03/11 -- There was no sign of China buying corn in this afternoon's USDA weekly export sales report just out. Old crop corn sales were 895,000 MT with new crop sales of just a nominal 100 MT. The total was however in line with trade estimates for sales of 750 thousand to 1 million MT. South Korea (290,100 MT) and Japan (221,700 MT) were the top buyers.

Soybean sales were 264,500 MT old crop and a nominal 200 MT of new crop against trade predictions of 250 to 450 thousand MT. Mexico was the main buyer (144,900 MT), with China only showing up as taking 20,800 MT.

Wheat sales were 659,700 MT old crop and 86,000 MT new crop, against expectations of 500 to 800 thousand MT. The top buyer was Nigeria (150,100 MT) followed by Egypt (116,800 MT) but with China showing up in a surprise third slot booking two cargoes (116,000 MT).

17/02/11 -- USDA weekly export sales were at or above the upper end of expectations for corn and wheat, but bean sales were a tad disappointing, including 118,100 MT of net reductions for new crop.

27/01/11 -- USDA weekly export sales were above 1 MMT for wheat for the second week running. Corn sales were strong, but bean sales a tad disappointing.

13/01/11 -- USDA weekly export sales for the period December 31-January 6 were very disappointing for wheat compared with trade expectations, although corn and soybean sales were in line with trade ideas.

Soybean sales were split 495,000 MT old crop and 180,000 MT new crop. China took 217,400 MT of the old crop and all of the new crop. Corn sales included 68,300 MT of new crop.

Wheat sales were down 68 percent from the previous week and 75 percent from the prior 4-week average. Egypt took 64,300 MT.

06/01/11 -- USDA weekly export sales for the period Dec 24-30 were generally a bit disappointing compared with trade expectations, although wheat was in line.

Soybean sales were towards the low end of trade ideas and corn was below expectations. For beans, once again the majority of the sales - 489,600 MT - were for China, although there were also decreases of 215,300 MT to unknown destinations.

30/12/10 -- USDA weekly export sales for the period Dec 17-23 were broadly in line with trade expectations, although wheat was slightly under and corn towards the low end of trade estimates.

Soybean sales were bang in line at 948,200 MT, including 285,000 MT of new crop sales all of which were to China.

16/12/10 -- USDA weekly export sales for the period Dec 3rd-9th 2010 were very poor for soybeans at a combined 173,600 MT split 84,600 MT old crop and 89,000 MT new crop.

It looks like there was some substance in those rumoured reports of Chinese old crop cancellations/deferrals. In addition there was only one cargo of new crop beans for China this week.

Corn sales were in line with expectations at a combined 880,100 MT whilst wheat sale beat trade ideas coming in at 973,300 MT.

09/12/10 -- USDA weekly export sales for the period ending Dec 2nd 2010:

Wheat sales were significantly better than expected and up 47 percent from the prior 4-week average. The total includes 43,500 MT for 2011/12 delivery. Actual exports were 438,000 MT.

Soybean sales were a bit better than expected and included 168,000 MT for 2011/12 delivery. As has frequently been the case fo late 75% of the old crop sales were for China (829,800 MT), whilst the new crop sales consisted of 118,000 MT to China and 50,000 MT to unknown.

Corn sales were in line with expectations and South Korea (506,500 MT) was the main taker. There was no sign of China.

USDA Weekly Export Sales

Strong sales again for soybeans, although they couldn't quite manage to reach the 2 MMT mark as they have for the past two weeks. As ever China was the biggest home booking 927,100 MT, including 102,500 MT switched from unknown destinations.

Corn sales were again a bit flat and towards the bottom end of expectations. Yet again there were none of the alleged Chinese sales.

Wheat sales were in line with expectations and included 44,000 MT for delivery in 2011/12 for the Philippines.

Soybean shipments were 1,965,600 MT, those for corn 880,300 MT and wheat 429,500 MT.
